Therapeutic Riding Center

The Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH), located at 886 Landry Lane in Sulphur, Louisiana, provides outpatient occupational therapy services in a non-traditional health care setting. Occupational therapy services are provided by utilizing various treatment modalities including, but not limited to, therapeutic riding.

Therapy provided is holistic and tailored to the needs of each individual to maximize their function to the highest level of functional independence. The use of the holistic environment allows the therapist to use, for example, a horse in therapy sessions just as one would use a therapy swing or ball for balance activities. The characteristic movement of the horse is used to assist patients in the development of vestibular and neurodevelopmental function. Patients benefit from the horses’ rhythmic, repetitive movements since the pelvic structure of the horse closely resembles that of a human.

The Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center offers many options unique to this facility. Binocular vision training, auditory integration training, vestibular education/reeducation, Irlen's Screening, fine motor training and reflex integration activities are some examples of services offered by our occupational therapy staff.
