Laboratory & Pathology

Comprehensive clinical laboratory testing is offered by the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) Laboratory in all clinical areas. The WCCH Laboratory team is staffed with highly trained phlebotomists, licensed medical technologists, and board-certified clinical and anatomical pathologists dedicated to the precision and accuracy of laboratory testing. Blood bank services are provided by our Laboratory, and other services include:

  • Clinical chemistry
  • Coagulation
  • Hematology
  • Immunology, immunochemistry, and serology
  • Microbiology and virology
  • Urinalysis

These tests are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for inpatient populations and on an outpatient basis Monday – Friday from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m at the main lab. Outpatient specimen collection is routinely performed at the Outpatient Lab Draw Station, affiliated with The Pathology Laboratory, at 1327 Stelly Lane, Suite 1, in Sulphur. The Outpatient Lab Draw Station is open Monday - Friday from 6 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Pathology (Anatomical)

Anatomical pathology is the diagnosis of disease based on the study of tissue. West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) works with The Pathology Laboratory to provide a full range of anatomical pathology services including:

  • Fine Needle Aspiration and interpretation
  • Pap smear screening (both ThinPrep with imaging and conventional)
  • Cytology and full surgical pathology services

All pathologists are board-certified in both anatomical and clinical pathology and some have subspecialty training in dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, hematopathology and cytopathology, and are fellows in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
