Discharge Information

Thank you for choosing West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) for your care. We’re honored to serve you and want your transition home to be as smooth and safe as possible.

Before You Leave

When it’s time for discharge, your nurse or physician will review important instructions to help you continue your recovery at home. The discharge process can take up to 2 hours, and may include the following:

  • Removal of your IV (if applicable)
  • How and when to take your medications
  • What to eat or avoid after your hospital stay, depending on your condition
  • Any activity restrictions or special care instructions
  • Recommendations for follow-up appointments, lab work or rehabilitation

Please take a few moments before you leave to make sure you have all your personal belongings. If you realize later that you’ve left something behind, please contact the WCCH main line at (337) 527-7034 for assistance.

Please note: Wheelchair transport is required by hospital policy. Our staff will escort you to the discharge area, which is located on Stelly Lane, at the front entrance of the hospital.

Please let a WCCH team member know if you need any additional assistance.

Getting Home Safely

For your safety, we ask that all patients arrange a ride home before discharge. You will not be allowed to drive yourself if you’ve received anesthesia or medications that affect alertness. If needed, your care team can help you coordinate transportation options.

Our Commitment to Your Safety

Your health and safety remain our top priorities — even after you leave our care. At WCCH, we believe that open, honest communication between patients and caregivers is the key to safe, high-quality care.

We encourage you to:

  • Ask questions if you don’t understand something.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions for recovery.
  • Let your nurse know right away if you need help or have concerns.
  • Learn as much as you can about your condition and recovery plan.

You can count on us to:

  • Explain your care clearly so you can make informed decisions.
  • Treat you with kindness, respect and compassion.
  • Protect your privacy at all times.
  • Use proper patient identification to ensure safe, effective care.
