The West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) Foundation is pleased to announce a charitable donation in the amount of $25,000 from the Gwatney family for the Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center. The donation was made in memory of Shirley C. Smith.
“The Gwatney family have been long supporters of the Therapeutic Riding Center,” says Anne Billeaudeaux, Executive Director of the WCCH Foundation. “The funds donated by the Gwatney family will be used to facilitate and meet the care needs of the horses at the Riding Center,” states Billeaudeaux.
“Our family discovered the Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center several years ago and were blown away by the facility’s innovative approach to outpatient therapy,” says Jon Gwatney representative of the Gwatney family. “We know the value this Riding Center plays in meeting the therapy needs of this community which is why we have continued to support it over the last 20 years,” says Gwatney.
The Therapeutic Riding Center of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital provides a natural, controlled environment for outpatient therapy using horses, known as hippotherapy. As the clients ride the horses they have improved mobility, balance, posture and function. Those with multiple sclerosis, autism, Downs Syndrome, developmental delays and other challenges can receive therapy through the Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center and develop confidence and independence.
