Hippotherapy/Therapeutic Riding

The Genesis Therapeutic Riding Center of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital utilizes hippotherapy in providing outpatient occupational therapy services. At the center, patients benefit from horses' rhythmic, repetitive movements being that the pelvic structure of the horse closely resembles that of a human. Individuals with any of the following diagnoses may benefit from the use of such a therapy.

  • Autism
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • ADHD/ADD
  • Down's Syndrome
  • Stroke
  • Developmental Delay
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Learning Disabled/Behavioral Disorders
  • Sensory Integration Dysfunction
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Other neuromuscular disorders

Clients can expect improvements in mobility, attention, posture, cognition, language development, balance, coordination, strength, range of motion and muscle tone.

The center participates in the Equestrian Special Olympics and Camp Smiling F.A.C.E.S. Tours of the facility can be arranged, with educational opportunities also available. The center is located at 886 Landry Lane in Sulphur, Louisiana. For more information, please call (337) 625-3972.
 
This year's Camp Smiling F.A.C.E.S. will be held June 14-18.  Cost to attend is $75.  Financial assistance for those needing aid is available in the form of scholarships.  To apply, please download the application packet below and follow the instructions for application.
